Ready, Aim, Shoot!

No we’re not going deer hunting, we are going picture hunting.  Yes, a picture is worth a thousand words and tomorrow all of us get a chance to become professionals with our cameras, phones or whatever you use to take your pictures. Some of us even know what film is (funny there is a whole generation that doesn’t). “The Picture Your Parks Photo Contest” is a fun way for the community to engage and experience our local Park System.  However, the big deal is that the picture must be taken between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and
10:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 1, 2010.  Yes, tomorrow. So start planning now! Photos must be recognizably in Gresham and taken within the Gresham Park system (you would be surprised how many locations there are that qualify – go to the City of Gresham’s Web Site for the location of all parks, trails and natural areas!).  This is about nature and our parks. So photos that have been digitally altered beyond basic
cropping, exposure and color adjustments will be disqualified. So there is no taking 20 lbs. off the park.
Again, go to the City of Gresham website for details. You have from dawn to dusk tomorrow to take
pictures of whatever you see that tells the park story you most want to tell – from wildlife and playgrounds to
graffiti and litter. It is y our story to tell – so channel your inner Ansel Adams and shoot!  See you out there – maybe I’ll get a picture of you taking a picture of me!

Gresham Ford Brings Cruise Oregon and My Fathers House Together

Gresham Ford hosted a Hoe Down BBQ for the 2010 Cruise Oregon car club on July 9th 2010. The Car club cruises around Oregon, Washington, Idaho & sometimes California and takes a road trip once per year as a club and chooses a charity to donate to during their trip with a dinner, games, and other ways of making money for the chosen charity.

Gresham Ford and Cruise Oregon used this BBQ as a benefit dinner for My Fathers House which is a local shelter for homeless family's and the charity that was chosen as this year's benificiary. We should had approximately 250 people attending with about 100 cars or so including the new 2011 Ford Fiesta.  The Chris Loid Band played some good country music to set the mood.  Live music, sunshine and cars - what more could a City of Gresham resident ask for?  We also put together 100 plus goodie bags for each Crusie Oregon car so that each participant gained a little more knowledge about the new 2011 Ford Fiesta available at Gresham Ford as well as My Fathers House.  This was a very exciting BBQ planned to bebefit the community at large. This benefit kicked-off the annual 2010 Cruise Oregon. It’s a 1280 mile loop that takes an estimated 200 classic car participants to explore the fabulous and diverse beauty that is uniquely Oregon.
We would like to invite you to become a partner with My Father’s House by being an in-kind donor for this special event. All donors will be recognized in our program, press releases and on our website. In addition we would include any promotional items or coupons in the 250+ goody bags given to Cruise Oregon participants. This year’s event will be held on Friday July 9th at 5:00 pm at Gresham Center for the Arts Plaza.
For numerous reasons, these families have ended up at the bottom of the well of hopelessness. If you have been there at any point in your life, you know what an awful place ‘hopelessness’ is. Our goal is to help families stay together while working on their issues together.  This year our goal is to raise $5,000 in gifts and pledges to benefit My Father’s House. From the very beginning nearly 10 years ago, our hope was to have ten thousand people give $10 per month. We aren’t quite there yet, but we believe that we can do this together.  For four years, Karl & Mary Wescott (Wescott's Auto Restyling) led the Northwest leg of the Americruise. From that experience, Mary had a spark of an idea… to explore the fabulous and diverse beauty that is uniquely Oregon. A 1280 mile loop that would take most participants no more than a day away from home. She asked if the Route 26 Cruisers was interested in running with her idea… and we jumped at the opportunity to organize and lead this great tour!

"Cruise Oregon" was born in 2001, and the participants have traveled throughout the states of Washington, California, into Idaho, and even Canada! We have had participants from 11 different states, and it continues to grow. The 2005 cruise had 165 classic cars participate with ice cream socials, events in the towns that we visited, and a week of good fun, friends, and cars! The cruise is a one week event that covers up to 1200 miles, with a different route every year.
