Oregon Ford Dealers Share More Information about the Electric Ford Focus

The 2012 Focus Electric is designed to deliver outstanding energy efficiency, reliable operation, and true driving enjoyment. Take a closer look at Focus Electric performance: All-electric powertrain and single-speed transmission are designed to provide immediate responsiveness and smooth acceleration
Enviromentally conscience Oregonians are overwhelming Oregon Ford Dealers with questions about the all new Electric Ford Focus.   With a top speed of up to 84 mph the performance of the Electric Focus is a rear head turner.  Many of the steering, handling and braking components are shared with the agile and sporty, gasoline Focus models in turn reducing costs compared to other manufacters that created their electric vehicles from completely new and different platforms.  Outstanding aerodynamics and the absence of a gasoline engine help achieve a remarkably quiet, comfortable in-car experience  The Focus Electric will offer a miles-per-gallon (mpg) equivalent competitive with other electric vehicles in the market including the Nissan Leaf.  Portland has been chosen .
The 2012 Focus Electric features an advanced, Ford-engineered 23kW liquid-cooled/heated lithium-ion battery pack

When plugged in, the Focus Electric onboard charger converts AC power from the electric grid to DC power to charge the liquid-cooled/heated battery pack.  The battery pack can be charged at home using: the the 120-volt convenience cord that will come with the vehicle.  The recommended 240-volt wall-mounted charge station that will be sold separately and can charge the battery in just over three hours.  Portland Charging stations are popping up all over making charging up a non issue for new owners adjusting to their new Green vehicle.  The State of Oregon is supporting this Green movement by creating and supporting the Oregon Electric Vehicle Charging Network that facilitates locating and charging your vehicle in less time that orginally estimated.  Click Here to Sign Up for Network Updates and Alerts.  The Electric Focus can be programmed to pre-heat or pre-cool the vehicle interior while charging the 2012 Focus Electric shares many of the features of the gas-powered Focus. Take a look at key interior features and technologies that are unique to the Focus Electric: MyFord Touch™ enhanced with unique electric driving screens.  The “MyFord Mobile” app allows Focus Electric owners to check the battery charge status of their car, set or initiate charging, find the location of their car in a parking lot, locate charging stations, plus search for destinations and determine if the car has enough charge to travel to all of the locations and back home.

New value-charging feature, through collaboration with Microsoft, enabling owners to charge their vehicles when utility rates are lowest.  Ford Motor Company has used eco-friendly interior materials throughout the vechile.  The 2012 Focus Electric shares many of the features of the gasoline-powered Focus. Take a look at key exterior features and technologies that are unique to the Focus Electric: a unique aerodynamic front fascia with chrome grille surround and chrome bars, illuminated LED charge port located on the driver's side front fender, Focus Battery Electric Road and Leaf badging as well as available HID headlamps and LED taillamps.

Conveying a sense of motion even when standing still, the Focus “kinetic” design delivers an exciting first impression. Take a closer look at key exterior design features: Quad-beam halogen headlamps give Focus a high-tech look, slim, swept-back headlamp design with chrome grille surround with chrome bars.  Along the side, the dramatic “Z” bodyside accent lines give the exterior design a sense of motion that is magnified with this hot orange coloring.  Pronounced wheel arches add to the impressive stance of the vehicle.  The rear fascia has light-catching lines to enhance the wide stance and athletic appearance.  Northwest commuters appreciate the peppy responsive handling of the Ford Focus Electric.  Ford has redesigned the taillamps have a sculpted design that now offer a more premium look and rounding out the exterior design features is the liftgate spoiler.

A hybrid vehicle is powered in part by a gasoline engine, and partly by a battery-powered electric motor. The two systems work together, so there is no need to plug in to charge the battery. For most low-speed or short-distance driving, hybrids run on battery power during acceleration and use the electric motor to assist the gas engine when extra power is needed. At higher speeds, the gasoline engine automatically kicks in and takes over. The battery is recharged by the gasoline engine, and also by a regenerative braking system, which captures over 90% of braking energy normally lost to heat due to friction.

This type of vehicle operates like a traditional hybrid vehicle. The difference is the addition of a charge port and a lithium-ion battery pack that is larger than the nickel-metal-hydride battery used in current hybrids. When fully charged, in most situations the vehicle will operate in pure electric mode until the battery is depleted, then will switch back to traditional hybrid mode using the engine and regenerative braking to charge the battery pack. The gas engine may come on under certain conditions such as heavy acceleration or at higher speeds. The benefits include a greater range in full electric mode than a full hybrid, which helps reduce fuel consumption.

This vehicle runs completely by battery power and does not use a single drop of gasoline. The all-electric design features an electric motor, charging port and high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack. Regenerative braking also aids in charging. This powertrain provides 100% CO2-free driving, and will give Focus Electric an mpg equivalent competitive with other electric vehicles in the market

Where some competitors have identified "a vehicle, one electrified powertrain" solution for all customers, our strategy offers a family of electrified powertrain vehicles that are based on existing vehicle platforms. This will allow Ford to have as many as five electrified vehicles in the U.S. by 2012.

The 2012 Focus is built on a global platform, and customers already know Focus as a great vehicle. Focus Electric has all the same innovative safety and convenience features as the gasoline-powered Focus, and is designed to deliver similar ride and handling characteristics. This gives customers that same fun-to-drive experience in an all-electric vehicle.

Ford will be piloting the Focus Electric launch in certain cities. These cities were chosen based on factors such as hybrid purchasing trends, customer demographics, state emission laws and utility company collaboration.

Yes. Purchasing a plug-in or electric vehicle may qualify customers for special tax incentives of up to $7,500 through the new Qualified Plug-in Electric Drive Motor Vehicle Credit. More information about these incentives can be found at www.irs.gov and www.fueleconomy.gov.

"Range anxiety" refers to the concern of an electric car running out of power and leaving the driver stranded on the way to his or her destination — the electric equivalent of running out of gas. Ford helps customers plan their routes before they start driving – both in their vehicles and out. Inside Focus Electric, MyFord Touch
and the unique electric driver screens provide new levels of vehicle information so owners can actively manage how they drive based on where they need to go. Drivers can view battery state of charge, distance to charge point, expected range and other factors right in the instrument cluster. Outside the vehicle, a smartphone app called MyFord Mobile allows drivers to view and manage the same information while away from their car, and even gives the option to begin charging with a touch of the finger. These tools and smart technologies work together to help drivers plan ahead, drive efficiently and counter range anxiety.

Assuming an electricity price of 12–15 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) (as of 2/28/11), a full charge of the 23-kWh battery in Focus Electric would cost an estimated $2–$3. When you consider the car’s mpg equivalent and rising fuel prices, it’s easy to see that Focus Electric can give customers a noticeable advantage in power efficiency! Actual charging costs will vary based on individual customers’ specific utility rates. Check with your local power company for details.

Yes, the vehicle comes with a standard 120-volt convenience cord, which allows you to charge the battery pack in your own garage. However, most Focus Electric customers will purchase a Ford-approved electric vehicle charging station to install in their garage. This upgrade equipment enables a 240-volt power outlet to fully charge Focus Electric in 3–4 hours (must be installed by a licensed technician).

The lithium-ion battery pack that powers the all-electric Focus has been designed to last the life of the vehicle.

Gresham Ford announces the release of the Ford Electric Focus and Electric Transit Connect for Oregon and Washington

ONE Ford Electrification Strategy The ONE Ford strategy for vehicle electrification is wide‑ranging and includes: launching five electrified vehicles in the U.S. by 2012.  The electric Transit Connect and Electric Focus are just two models that will be introduced to Portland and Vancouver area in the next 18 months.

Introducing a variety of new technologies, such as Microsoft HohmTM, that will help future owners of Ford electric vehicles optimize the way they recharge their vehicle and manage their home’s energy use.  Creating a center of excellence for vehicle electrification where the company will design, engineer and produce key components for its next-generation hybrid-electric and 100 percent electric vehicles.  The Ford plan is to deliver a suite of electrified vehicles
to a variety of markets and build an overall plan that offers the widest possible range of technology solutions — instead of a single vehicle or technology — to improve fuel economy and lower CO 2 emissions for customers around the world.  Blazing new trails and anticipating buyers’ needs are nothing new for Ford.

That’s why an electric vehicle strategy is a key part of the ONE Ford philosophy.  Fuel efficiency, higher fuel costs and concerns about the environment have all affected purchase considerations.  Gresham Ford is committed to the all new Focus Electric Car.  Portland and Vancouver are perfect areas for this cutting edge technology.  Electric vehicles are the right solution to a variety of changing customer wants and needs.  Gresham Ford is just one of the Portland Oregon Ford dealers and wants to be your dealership of choice.

What’s Coming Next!

Today, some competitors are entering the market with one‑off vehicles. For instance, the 2011 Chevrolet Volt and Nissan LEAFTM are currently available. Soon, Mitsubishi will introduce its i-MiEV for 2012, and Toyota and Tesla are working on an electric version of the RAV4 for 2012 as well.

We have a much broader overall strategy that will bring to market a suite of vehicles that will offer a variety of electrified powertrains. On the commercial fleet side, it begins with the Transit Connect Electric. On the retail side, we will have the 100 percent electric Focus.

These vehicles represent the first steps in our electrification path moving forward.  Both vehicles bring new levels of technology to the market and will change the way customers interact with their vehicles.

All-electric Vehicles — available on the 2012 Focus, this powertrain is all electric. Instead of a gasoline engine, this vehicle will feature an electric motor, charging port, high-voltage lithium ion battery and a regenerative braking system. The powertrain is targeted to go up to 100 miles on a single charge and is rechargeable using a 120- or 240-volt electrical outlet. Seeing as electricity is often cheaper than gasoline, it may be less costly to operate. It will also feature an easy to use, advanced power management system to assist drivers in planning trips and managing battery life.

Remember that Gresham Ford is a Family Operated Minority Ford Dealership that serves Oregon and Washington Ford owners.  Gresham Ford wants to be your Oregon Ford dealership of choice.  So if you are in search of a new electric focus or electric transit connect from an Oregon Ford Dealer, Gresham Ford wants to earn your business.  Please feel free to view our online inventory 24 hours.  Talk to you soon.

Transit Connect has many possibilities

The Transit Connect is Ford’s dedicated small commercial van and is the perfect vehicle to upfit and wrap with graphics.  The Transit Connect combines award-winning design with proven Truck Tough reliability in a small vehicle.  It also has serious payload and GVWR capability in an agile, city-smart package.  The dual-purpose functionality with Van and Wagon models is also available.

2.0L Duratec® 16-valve DOHC I-4 Engine is in every Ford Transit Connect.  It has Best-in-class(1) 2010 EPA-estimated fuel economy of 22 mpg city/25 mpg highway,  136 horsepower @ 6300 rpm, 128 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4750 rpm.  Its cast aluminum engine block and cylinder head reduces overall vehicle weight while the DOHC, 16-valve cylinder head delivers excellent combustion performance for a balance of horsepower and fuel efficiency.  The transit connect uses a timing chain instead of a belt, helping to improve engine durability.  The Low NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) characteristics contribute to a smooth ride and quiet interior.  The Ford Transit Connect is also paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive.  It meets Federal Tier 2 Bin 4 standards and qualifies for
California Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle II (ULEV II) standard 4-speed Automatic Transmission.  The  Electronic shift control helps provide smooth shifts and optimum performance.  The overdrive lowers engine rpm at highway speeds, helping maximize fuel economy and providing a 4.20:1 final drive ratio.

CNG/LPG Engine Prep Package (90G) is also available on 2.0L Duratec DOHC I-4 which includes hardened: Engine exhaust valves, engine intake valves, engine valve seats.  Note : This package does not include CNG/LPG fuel tanks, lines, etc. Vehicle will be equipped with the standard factory gasoline fuel system. Additional equipment combined with a certified calibration reflash is required from an external upfitter to convert the vehicle to a CNG/LPG-fueled vehicle.  It is the responsibility of the final-stage manufacturer to determine that vehicle converted to use CNG or LPG complies with the U.S. Federal, California or Canadian exhaust and evaporative emissions requirements, fuel economy standards, safety standards, labeling and/or any other requirements.

The combination of the independent MacPherson strut front suspension, multi-leaf rear suspension, rack-and-pinion steering and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) allows the Transit Connect to drive and ride more like a car than a working van.  Independent MacPherson Strut Front Suspension makes the Ford Transit Connect a superior vehicle for Oregon Small Business Owners.  Gresham Ford serves the Portland Oregon area as a Oregon Ford Dealer who is a Business Preffer Dealer.  The Ford Transit Connect allows each front wheel to react to road irregularities with minimal effect on the opposite wheel for a smooth, controlled ride while also contributing to responsive steering
.  Includes a stabilizer bar to help reduce body roll while cornering.  The Transit Connect rides more like a car while working like a van.  The multi-leaf Rear Suspension has a rugged design provides load-carrying capability along with a smooth ride.  It includes a stabilizer bar to help reduce body roll
while cornering.  The rack-and-pinion Steering is a clear difference with the competition.  The rack-and-pinion power steering maintains linear steering effort as the driver turns the wheel resulting
in responsive steering with excellent return ability and handling characteristics.  The Tight 39.0-foot (curb-to-curb) turning diameter helps make Transit Connect as nimble as a small car.  Front Disc/Rear Drum Brakes.  The Power front disc/rear drum system provides sure, controlled stops.  The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) is standard.  The Ford Fleet Transit Connect also has the advantage of being a Flat/Neutral Tow.  This Oregon Ford Fleet Dealer offers a Transit Connect should not be towed with all four wheels on the ground.  It is recommended to tow with the front drive wheels on a dolly with the transmission in N (Neutral) or with all four wheels off the ground on a car-hauling trailer.  Remember that the Ford Transit Connect is not equipped to tow and there is No optional tow packages available.

(“Continental Tire”) and is applicable for Continental/General Tire brand new vehicle original equipment tires and is a promise of replacement under certain specified conditions. This Limited Warranty and Policy applies to tires in normal service displaying adjustable conditions (see Section 4) and does not require the existence of a workmanship-or-material-related condition in order to qualify for adjustment.  THIS LIMITED WARRANTY AND POLICY IS NOT A WARRANTY THAT YOUR TIRE WILL NOT FAIL OR BECOME UNSERVICEABLE IF NEGLECTED OR MISTREATED.  Continental Tire recommends that you carefully review this guide, which contains important Limited Warranty and Policy information. NOTICE TO UTILITY VEHICLE AND TRUCK OWNERS - Utility vehicles and trucks handle
differently than passenger cars in the various driving conditions that are encountered on streets, highways and off-road. Utility vehicles and trucks are not designed for cornering at speeds as high as passenger cars any more than low-slung sports cars are designed to perform satisfactorily under off-road conditions. WARNING: Utility vehicles have a significantly higher rollover rate than other types of vehicles. To reduce the risk of serious injury or death from a rollover or other crash you must: Avoid sharp turns and abrupt maneuvers; Drive at safe speeds for the conditions; Keep tires properly inflated; Never overload or improperly load your vehicle; and Make sure every passenger is properly restrained.  WARNING: In a rollover crash, an unbelted person is significantly more likely to die than a person wearing a seat belt.  All occupants must wear seat belts and children/infants must use appropriate restraints to minimize the risk of injury or ejection.  Study your Owner’s Guide and any supplements for specific information about equipment features, instructions for safe driving and additional precautions to reduce the risk of an accident or serious injury.  VEHICLE CHARACTERISTICS 4WD and AWD Systems (if equipped) A vehicle equipped with AWD or 4WD (when selected) has the ability to use all four wheels to power itself. This increases traction which may enable you to safely drive over terrain and road.  The Gresham Ford Family is proud to be your Oregon Ford Dealer of choice and serves the Portland area.  If you were looking for a Vancouver Discount tire store we can also help you and are just minutes away.

7%

I went to a class at Mt. Hood Community College this past week. One of the topics of the class was on communication. Here is an interesting fact: 55% of the communication we do is with body language, 38% with tone of voice, and just 7% with the words we say.  So the old adage “it is not what you say, but how you say it” is so true.  So here in the newspaper I only get to use printed words. Does that mean only 7% of you ever hear what I say? Well, we will find out. As I wrote last week we are celebrating several recent awards from Ford Motor Company with a “Customer Appreciation Luncheon” on Friday, August 20th (didn’t seem right to do it on the 13th) from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. While we want to express our appreciation to all of our customers, we really want to meet as many of you as possible.  And at 12:30 p.m. Employees from Ford Motor Company will officially present us with Ford Motor Company’s President’s Award!  Then we will have a conversation where we can use 100% of our communication skills to make
you feel welcome. Annette and Laurie are going to be putting a great lunch together! Cher has some
prizes for everyone! Bob & Preston have a smile for each of you!  And I can’t wait to meet more
than 7% of you!! See you on Friday for Lunch!!

This engine, teamed with either the 5-speed manual transmission or the 4-speed automatic transmission, meets the Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV) standard. The PZEV rating applies to California Emissions States.  The 2010 Ford Focus has very low emmissions putting it in the same category with some hybrid vehicles.

rear suspension delivers an excellent balance of ride and handling and is built on an isolated subframe to reduce interior vibration and harshness.  The Sport-tuned suspension is standard on SES Coupe and

A Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV) is certified to emit no more than 6.5 pounds of hydrocarbon pollutants over 120,000 miles of driving. By comparison, a vehicle certified to the California Low Emissions Vehicle (LEV II) or Federal Tier 2 Bin 5 emissions standard emits about 29 pounds over 120,000 miles.
Under today’s criteria, vehicles that achieve a PZEV rating earn 9.5 on the Environmental Protection Agency’s Green Vehicle Guides. Only a zero emissions vehicle (battery electric or fuel cell) receives a better score.(1)  To achieve a PZEV rating, a vehicle must meet certain criteria, including:  Meet the super ultra-low emissions vehicle (SULEV) standard for tailpipe pollution.  This Demonstrates the zero fuel-based evaporative emissions and that manufacturer’s warranty must ensure that emissions-related components are covered for 15 years/150,000 miles.

Gresham Ford is proud to be a Presidents Award Winning Oregon Ford Dealership that provides service to Portland and Vancouver.  The 2010 Year End Sales Event is a great time to visit Gresham Ford and the 2010 Ford Line-up of cars, Trucks, Suvs, and Crossover vehicles.
